Here on the coast, we know the sea has a way of preserving stories. Through the Veterans Memorial Reef, we’re making sure the stories of our veterans are never forgotten.

For about the cost of one Starbucks coffee each month, you can help give a veteran the honor they earned through a lifetime of service.

Last year, your generosity changed the story of WWII and Korean War veteran John Fryar.

Without the support of our community, John’s ashes would have remained in an urn on the recliner inside his trailer, with no permanent memorial to honor his service.

Instead, because people like you cared, John now rests among his fellow service members at the Veterans Memorial Reef. His legacy lives on beneath the waters he loved, where family, friends, and our community can remember his sacrifice for generations to come.

Honor Flight of the Cape Fear Area (HFCFA) will fly its next mission to Washington, DC on April 18, 2026. All Veterans who served prior to 1975 are eligible to apply. To accommodate more Veterans for this once-in-a-lifetime experience, HFCFA will charter a larger aircraft, enabling 85 Veterans to travel to the nation’s capital.

A great afternoon at Moores Creek National Park. Jason (park ranger) did a terrific job educating SENCLAND Chapter members about the Battle at Moores Creek on February 27, 1776, and treated the group with a live musket firing demonstration. The battle was the first major Patriot victory that would influence The Second Continental Congress to vote to declare independence from the British on July 4, 1776

The Chapter offers the opportunity for members and their spouses to purchase engraved plastic nametags. The cost of the nametags is $15, the style and size is shown in the image, and will have a magnetic clasp.

The Carolina Museum of the Marine in Jacksonville, NC will open to the public on June 8, 2026. This museum is dedicated to honoring the service and sacrifice of Carolina Marines and Sailors.

The SENCLAND's December 2nd luncheon was its holiday social featuring returning barbershop chorus, the Cape Fear Chordsmen whose musical presentations included both patriotic and holiday melodies. In addition to the Cape Fear Chordsmen performance, attendees also enjoyed a Bluewater Waterfront Grill delicious special menu.

SENCLAND celebrated U.S. Navy 250th birthday during the October luncheon.

The Wilmington Veteran Tribute Banner project team is very pleased to announce that banners paying tribute to veteran or active military service members may be ordered at this time. The project is organized and run by the New Hanover County Veterans Council. We have received support and cooperation with the City of Wilmington to be able to hang these beautiful banners within the city. Locations are being established.

Please consider honoring a veteran or active military member with a banner.

Sandi Adams, SENCLAND Chapter Surviving Spouse Liaison, gave a very informative presentation "Know Before They Go" to help prepare us for when the unexpected, or expected, loss of a beloved spouse occurs. Click button below to see video.

Fifteen SENCLAND MOAA Members got to have a tour of the USCG Facility at Oak Island, NC, a briefing on the station’s history and mission by their OIC BMCS Logan Adkisson, and a very nice boat ride on Thursday 10/26/23 which was a beautiful day.

Colonel Theodore J. Janosko, USA (ret), Chair of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) Council was the guest speaker for the SENCLAND Chapter's 50th anniversary recognition luncheon. The SENCLAND Chapter has been a MOAA member for 50 years. It was chartered on June 30, 1973. Click the link below to watch a video of the recognition event.

Frank Roberts, LCDR, USCG (Ret) was awarded the prestigious Order of the Long Leaf Pine Award during our Chapter luncheon meeting on September 5, 2023. This is the highest award given by the State of North Carolina to civilians and was presented by Representative Ted Davis. Click the link below for a WECT News video of the award presentation.
